Elaine Mitchell of Cut Bank will begin collecting signatures from 15 percent of registered voters in Glacier County as the next step in her attempt to recall Mary Anne Boggs, Glacier County Treasurer.

Boggs was elected to the position in November 2014 and took office in January 2015, In that time she said she has hired a completely new staff and spent  time gaining knowledge and experience.

In a written statement Tuesday Boggs said that she believes the petition will be “found invalid.”

Glacier County Clerk and Recorder Glenda Hall has accepted Cut Bank Mitchell’s recall petition, which had to be resubmitted after corrections were made to outline the reasons Mitchell requests the recall election. Fifteen percent of registered voters amounts to approximately 1,100 signatures and Mitchell will have until December 7th to gather the signatures required. Mitchell indicated that she is confident she will meet the deadline. “We’re going door to door” to gather signatures, she said.

Hall will then have 10 days to review the petition and verify the status of those who have signed. State statute does not require Hall to accept the petition, which would then require the issue be taken up in court.

Mitchell said people will be spreading the petitions throughout Glacier County. People can also stop by Utterback Accounting in Cut Bank, 205 Main St., to sign.

Additionally, people can call Carol Larson at 229-0276; Vicki Boyd at 873-4712; or Elaine Mitchell at 799-5534 to sign the petition.
