(UNDATED) – AFTER ALL THAT RAINFALL, UP TO FIVE-INCHES IN SOME PLACES,

FROM LAST WEEK YOU MIGHT KNOW THE MOSQUITOS WOULD FOLLOW AND THEY

HAVE.

IT’S IRONIC THAT THIS IS THE WEEK  DESIGNATED AS NATIONAL MOSQUITO

CONTROL  AWARENESS WEEK AND IT MIGHT BE ARRIVING A LITTLE LATE TO DO ANY

GOOD.

IN TOOLE COUNTY, COMMISSIONER BEN OBER TELLS KSEN THAT THE CITY-COUNTY

FUNDED MOSQUITO DISTRICT HAS BEEN LARVACIDING, TRYING TO PREVENT  MOSQUITO

LARVAE FROM DEVELOPING INTO ADULTS,  PONDS SINCE MID-APRIL AND THERE

WAS SPRAYING GOING ON SUN. NIGHT WITHIN THE SHELBY CITY LIMITS.

BUT OBER NOTED THAT ONCE SPRAYING BEGINS IT’S USUALLY UP TO A WEEK BEFORE

THE EFFECTS ARE NOTICED.

AND THE ISSUE HERE IN THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE APPARENTLY ISN’T QUITE AS SEVERE

AS TO THE EAST, IN HILL COUNTY, FOR EXAMPLE, WHERE HILL COUNTY MOSQUITO DISTRICT

SUPERVISOR TERRY HILL TELLS THE HAVRE DAILY NEWS THAT THEY WILL NORMALLY COLLECT

250-300 MOSQUITOS IN TRAPS, THIS YEAR ARE FULL TO THE BRIM WITH MORE THAN 4-THOUSAND

INSECTS IN THEM.

A MAJOR CONCERN IS MOSQUITOS TRANSMITTING OR INFECTING PEOPLE WITH THE

WEST NILE VIRUS.

THE GENERAL PUBLIC CAN ASSIST WITH CONTROL BY MAKING SURE STANDING WATER

IS ELIMINATED FROM YOUR PROPERTY……..FOR EXAMPLE WATER IN DOG DISHES, ON TARPS, IN

BARRELS, RAIN GUTTERS AND OLD TIRES TO NAME A FEW.
