Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week in one case helped her team to their first win of the season and in the other case, two straight victories to open the season.

Our male Athlete is just a sophomore but had already made a great first impression as a freshman. Sophomore Keely Bake of Fairfield opened the season with some eye-opening numbers scoring and with some numbers that not everyone saw. Specifically seven assists and three steals in a Fairfield win over Three Forks. First year head coach, Jordan Ratliff says those assists were a big factor in a win against a quality team on their home court. He also noted that Keely, up to now, has been a facilitator, but continues to develop as a scorer and he didn't get off to a bad start with 21 points over Boulder on the first day of the tournament and then 13 against Three forks. Bake is extremely quick and athletic, the son of former Choteau star Jason Bake and Fairfield volleyball coach Courtney Bake.

Our female Athlete of the Week also has basketball in her blood, the daughter of long-time Big Sandy coach, Roy Lackner. Junior guard/forward, Teia Lackner definitely sparked the Valier lady Panthers to their first victory of the season with 21 points against Two Eagle River. Lackner was the Panthers' leading scorer in nearly every game last year and is expected to continue that trend this season with help from more experience all around her. First year head coach, Michelle Beck, also a daughter of Roy Lackner, says Teia is a solid all-around on defense and can play inside and out on the offense.

Also nominated this week, freshman Skylar Connelly of Valier who came off the bench in the Panthers' loss to St. Ignatius and scored 14 points.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96 Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the week - sophomore Keely Bake of Fairfield and junior, Teia Lackner of Valier. The athlete of the week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank. McDonald's honors our athletes with two free value meals each.

And we encourage fans, coaches, teammates and parents to nominate athletes of the week. If you think they’ve had an exceptional performance email me at mark.daniels@townsquaremedia.com.
