With Christmas almost here, where or should a person get their annual Christmas tree? Several years back, 23% of real Christmas tree sold came from chain stores, 9% from non-profit groups, 12% from retail lots and 21% came from choose and cut farms. Now, if you add up those figures, they come to 65%. What about the remaining 35%? I'll get back to this later. In the meantime, here in Shelby, the big Albertsons store seems the place to get your real life tree. local folks have frequented the infamous Albertsons parking lot for years and this year should be no exception. I put through a call to Blazers Fresh Foods to inquire if they would have some trees for sale in their Blazers parking lot but the answer was "negative" on that deal. I also checked with our Pamida store and they are unsure at this time. I'll keep checking and keep you posted. In previous years, one of the local boy scout troops has had Christmas trees for sale and hopefully they'll be doing the same again this year. Now...getting back to that 65%...if 23% of you get get your real trees from chain stores, 9% from the non-profits like the boy scouts I just mentioned, 12% from retail lots like Albertsons, and 21% from those choose and cut farms, this only adds up to 65%. This means 35% of you are getting your real live trees from somewhere else besides the chain stores, non-profit groups, retail lots and choose and cut farms. I put on my reporters hat and got the story behind the story. Apparently some of you are topping the blue spruce out at Lake Sheloole. What a way to celebrate Christmas with a stolen tree! Well, I never!
