Who’ll stop the rain

We’re going back to Viet Nam tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon on the Puffman Show. I’m going to be talking with Marc Phillip Yablonka at 4:35PM. Marc has written a mind numbing book entitled “Distant War-Recollections of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. He will be joining us long distance live from his California home. This is an outstanding read and Marc has a “Montana connection”, he attended college over in Missoula back in his scufflin’ days. Back in the 70′s, I was a news broadcaster, and in reading “Distant War”, it brought so many memories of the news I used to report daily with names like Cam Ranh Bay, Pleiku, the Ho Chi Minh Trail, the Mekong Delta, the Khmer Rouge, and so many more. I had honestly not only forgotten about these “far away places and names, but also forgotten how “common place” they were on the news of the day back in the 60′s and 70′s. Just reading about our POW’s, including John McCain and Vice Admiral James Bond Stockdale, brought chills to my spine. Does the that name “Stockdale” sound familiar? He was eventually released and ran as Ross Perot’s running mate when Perot ran for the presidency a number of years ago. I’m sure most of us who were around during the “Viet Nam days” will never forget this tragic period of our history but reading Marc’s book brings this terrible time in our county’s/world’s history like a ton of bricks. Trust me, once you start this book, it is next to impossible to put down. No matter where you are/were politically, whether you went to “Nam” or were one of the “fortunate sons”, this is a truly riveting read about one of the darkest times in our lifetimes that I can remember. Looking forward to hearing more about “Distant War” tomorrow afternoon at 4:35. I’ll be giving away an autographed copy of this page turner right after tomorrow’s interview. Stay tuned…
