Our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy female Athlete of the Week is a top defensive player who also stepped up on the offensive side this week and our Male Athlete of the Week climbed to the top of the podium in the Divisional Wrestling Tournament.

There have been some losses for So. Shelby wrestler Cameron Brusven this season but a whole lot more wins and he now has a first Major Championship under his belt. Brusven captured the 170-lb. championship at last Weekend’s Northern B-C Divisional meet in Conrad with 3 wins in an always tough weight class.

Shelby Head Coach Tad White said “it wasn’t really a surprise but it also wasn’t a given.” Brusven had wrestled his Championship opponent, J.T. Hauer of Chinook, twice previously with an even record and so this, you might say was the rubber match and even though it was close, “back and forth,” in White’s words, Brusven came out on top by fall in 3-minutes and 19-seconds.

Brusven had a 2nd place finish at Cut Bank this year and a 2nd at Cascade but now can add the 1st place trophy to the resume. His record for the season 38-15.

Our Female Athlete of the Week is described by Fairfield Head Coach Dustin Gordon as “our primary defensive stopper,” but over the last weekend it was nice to see some players beside Kenna Pitcher do some scoring. Among those other players was Jr. Cheyenne Maddox.

In the Rocky Boy game Saturday, a game which ended up in OT, Maddox dropped in 13 points and was impressive across the board with 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists. Earlier in the week, she tossed in 17 points in a win over Conrad and added 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. Solid numbers across the board and a very good weekend for Maddox and the Fairfield Eagles.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week, Jr. Cheyenne Maddox of Fairfield and So. Cameron Brusven of Shelby. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s of Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our Athlete’s with two free value meals each.
