Athlete of the Week
KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week came up big on the biggest stage of the season so far in the District Basketball Tournaments. Our male Athlete of the Week didn’t come from the Championship team or the runner-up or 3rd place for that matter but from the team that did just what they had to do at the right moment to continue their season into the divisional tournament. Cut Bank Sr. Devin Gobert led the Wolves with 22-points in the team’s key win over Choteau that kept the season alive. Especially key was his 10-13 from the free throw line and he added 4 rebounds, 2-assists and a steal. Gobert has been a steady performer throughout his career in Cut Bank and Head Coach Josh Larson told us, “he always plays solid defense, gets others involved and always draws the opposing team’s best defender.” Gobert put another 23 on the board in Cut bank’s loss to Rocky Boy in the consolation game. In the three games of the District Tournament, Devin hit 27-32 free throws, an 84-percent clip.
Also nominated this week, Devin Gobert’s partner in the back court, Sr. Hayden Harrell who had 21 points and 3-steals in the win over Choteau.
Our female Athlete of the Week, actually comes from a team that did not quite make it out of the District but her consistency was as good as anyone. Conrad Jr. Lauren Phillips really seems to kick it up a notch when the pressure’s on and she did just that throughout 1B District Tournament. In the opener, a tight matchup with Choteau, Phillips hit 4-6 free throws and 3 field goals in the 4th quarter helping the Cowgirls to the 3-point win. She tied with Kate Murack for team scoring honors with 16. In the Semifinal which Conrad lost by 9, Phillips led the team with more than half the total of 15 points. She also led both teams with 7-rebounds. And in the loser-out matchup with Rocky Boy, Lauren had her best scoring output with 21 points along with 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Sr. Devin Gobert of Cut Bank and Jr. Lauren Phillips of Conrad. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our Athlete’s with two free value meals each.
