KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week had a heckuva weekend and a heckuva year on the mats. Co-male Athlete’s of the Week both advanced to the Championship round of the State B-C Wrestling Tournament in Billings. Both lost in that Championship match but still memorable performances.

Conrad So. Roper Mycke got his second, 2nd place finish at the State Tournament at 126-lbs.. He lost in the Championship match to Gunner Smith of Eureka a 3-time State Champion. Conrad Head Coach Kevin Moritz says the fact that Roper made it to that Championship round was amazing as he was down by 5-points in about the last :30 of his Semifinal match but was able to pick up 2-points and then another 3 within the final :10.

Moritz says that’s “ a testament to Roper who will never quit, when most might just give up at that point.” Mycke finished with a 44-6 record on the season but doesn’t stop thinking about wrestling in the off-season. He assists with coaching and refereeing Jr. High Wrestlers and competes with the Mt. National Team in the off season. You might say it’s a way of life.

The other 2nd place finisher from the area, Fairfield’s 113-pound Sophomore Miguel Ramos who lost only by a slim margin of 8-6 in the Championship match. Fairfield Coach Mike May, asked what makes Ramos such a good wrestler says, “he puts the time in, he has good technique and can also be very aggressive. May also said Ramos wasn’t far from winning a Championship and just needed to fix a few small details. Ramos had a 3rd place finish as a freshman and a 2nd place this year. He has two years left to get to #1.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week, So. Roper Mycke of Conrad and So. Miguel Ramos of Fairfield. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our Athlete’s with two free value meals each.
