Both of our KSEN/K96 --Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week come from the CJI Hawks, who made impressive runs at the Northern C Divisional Tournament last weekend.
The Lady Hawks just missed out a birth in the State Tournament with a 3rd place finish at the Divisional.  The finished with an amazing 21-4 record and a 9C District Championship, despite being an extremely young team. In regard to that youth, the only Sr. on the team, became a "Great" leader, according to Head Coach Jordan Miller.  Sr. Jayla Ramberg is our Female Athlete of the Week.  Ramberg is a hard-working, intense player who averaged a double-double thru the 4 games of the tournament. Her biggest game was the loser-out contest Saturday morning where she came up with 15 rebounds and 17 -points to lift CJI into the consolation game against Belt. The Hawks won that Belt game and Ramberg had her 2nd double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds.  Unfortunately, they were unable to challenge, and the season came to an end, but Ramberg's inspiration will live on as the team goes back after it next year. We also had a nomination for Shelby Sr. Adele Lamb whose leadership and tenacious defense, helped the Coyotes to a 4th place finish at the Northern B Divisional.
Our Male Athlete of the Week was part of a great team effort where the CJI Boys came up just short in a Challenge game where the winner moves ahead to the State Tournament. There were a number of excellent performances, but a sense that one player may have stepped up more than expected.  That player was Jr. Elijah Sanders whose outside shooting was a key in opening up the Hawks offense, not only in the Divisional but the District Tournament a week earlier. Sanders was 15-20 from the field in that District Tournament and then continued on in the Divisional leading the Hawks with 17 points, (6-11) from the field and 4 rebounds and 4 steals in the opener against Denton-Geyser-Stanford-Geraldine, After losing that opener, Ryland St. John had a big game with 25 points, but Sanders backed him up with 14 points and 3 rebounds.   In the key win over Winnett/Grass range, St. John scored 20 but Sanders again Chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds. We also had a nomination this week for Jr. Ryland St. John.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Jr. Elijah Sanders of CJI and Sr. Jayla Ramberg of CJI.  The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank. McDonald's honors our athlete's with two free value meals each.
