Choosing our KSEN/K96- Bozeman trophy athlete of the week was as difficult as it's been all year. Three athletes were nominated and all three played key roles in their teams' success at last weekend's Northern B Divisional tournament. After much consideration, our choice for athlete of the week goes to Senior, Andrew Johnson, also known as Rooster of the Divisional Champion Shelby Coyotes. Most fans know about his season-high 36 points in the semi-final win over Rocky Boy Friday, but it's also of interest that he was Shelby's leading rebounder, tied with TJ Reynolds with six in that game and was also the leading rebounder with six again in the opening round against Glasgow. In the Rocky Boy game, Shelby head coach Tom Reynolds told us afterwards the opportunity presented itself and "we always knew Andrew was capable of having a big night". Time after time, he was able to hit a shot at the high post or drive against Rocky Boy's big men. Then the perfect jam as he caught the ball in stride down the lane. Johnson was in double figures in each game of the tournament, averaging just over 19 for the three games.

Our other nominees included Choteau super sophomore Patton who can score from anywhere on the floor and poured in a tournament-high 41in the Saturday morning game against Rocky Boy. Patton averaged 31 points a game in those four contests. And, finally, Shelby point guard Aaron White who had a solid weekend scoring, but more importantly the undisputed leader on the floor for Shelby with great ability to drive the lane, get shots up with defense all over him. He is also a clutch three-point shooter when the Coyotes need a basket and maybe the best free-throw shooter in all the state.

Congratulations to our nominees and our KSEN/K96 - Bozeman Trophy Athlete of the Week; senior Andrew Johnson of Shelby. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank. McDonald's honors our athletes with two free value meals each.

And we encourage fans, coaches, teammates and parents to nominate athletes of the week. If you think they've had an exceptional performance email me at mark.daniels@townsquaremedia.com.
