Athlete of the Week
Our KSEN/K96 – Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week both joined the 20-pt club quickly at the start of the season. Our female Athlete of the Week even jumped into the 30-pt club.
Male Athlete of the Week honors go to Choteau Sr. Kolby Kovatch who had (2) twenty pt. performances in the opening weekend and led the Choteau Bulldogs to a 2-0 start. The Sr. forward hit for 22 points in a Choteau win over Eureka Fri. night 62-50 and came back with 21 more in a come-from- behind win over Thompson Falls 60-56 Sat. night.
1st Year Head Coach Austin Schilling says Kolby played well all the way around, on defense and hitting the boards. As the Bulldogs came from behind in the Thompson Falls game, Kovatch scored 18 of those 21 points in the second half. He is a 3rd year starter for Choteau.
Female Athlete of the Week honors go to another Sr. All-Around Athlete who started off strong on the Basketball floor. Janessa Willekes led the Simms Tigers to two straight victories over Centerville this past week. In an invitation tournament this weekend she hit for 30 points in the 45-39 Simms win.
1st Year Head Coach Jacqueline Whaley says Janessa “is a hard worker who wants to take the ball to the basket and gets her share of put backs to go with her outside shooting.” Coach Whaley also noted Janessa is a well-rounded leader, actively involved in other areas at school and community. She was also an outstanding Volleyball player for the Tigers.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96 – Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week, Sr. Janessa Willekes of Simms and Sr. Kolby Kovatch of Choteau. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our Athlete’s with two free value meals each.
