High School Basketball players are warming up as we approach mid-season and some big numbers are showing up across the state, but none bigger than our male Athlete of the Week and not many more for our female Athlete of the Week.

Male Athlete of the Week honors go to Shelby So. Rhett Reynolds who had the biggest night of his career and led Shelby to a convincing win over previously unbeaten Choteau. Reynolds hit shots from around the key, definitely at the basket and even from beyond the arc.

Q: two more……………..News Audio…………………Rhett Reynolds PBP

By the time all was said and done, Reynolds ended with 41 points, a career high and equally impressive 24 rebounds and 5 blocks. Head Coach Tom Reynolds asked about the total turnaround from previous games said, Choteau’s obviously not as big and our kids started feeding the ball to Reynolds. In regard to his son’s performance he said “it’s just a young kid growing up.” Rhett followed up the night with 24 points and 11 rebounds Sat. against G.F. Central.

Our female Athlete of the Week also had a big night for the Valier Lady Panthers in a win over Augusta. Jr. Erica Ramsey, hit 28 points on the night, a career high and then came back with 13 against a tougher Simms squad.

Valier Coach Michelle Beck says Ramsey’s play has become instrumental for her team. “her quickness helps the Panthers fast break and press on defense.” Erica is a three sport athlete and honor roll student, who Beck says “works hard and is becoming a consistent threat offensively and defensively.”

Also nominated this week, Jeena Alborano of Sunburst who scored 19-points in a Refiner win over Heart Butte.
