KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week pulled off huge performances in the Football playoffs and the District Volleyball Tournament.

Our female Athlete of the Week is Choteau junior,  Christine Funk who, as always, plays a key role for the Bulldogs who have won yet another District Tournament.   In the 5 matches that Choteau played Christine had 9 aces, 7 kills, 3 blocks, almost one-third of the teams’ assists and an amazing 98 digs. But it’s more than just the numbers that define Funk.  One onlooker, who truly understands the game says “her skills as a junior are amazing.”  “She’s in my opinion the best player in the conference.” Christine many times will shift positions to suit the team, depending on who the opponent is.  For example, you see all those digs in the back, bit still busting up to the front when she’s not getting the dig, to deliver the set. Her understanding of the game may be well above the high school level, our expert says.

Also nominated this week, Shelby Sr. Brogan McAllister, who Coach Jessica Brusven really had a “standout day,” at the District Tournament Fri. with 31 digs in the Choteau match, along with 13 kills.  Also a nomination for Cut Bank Sr. Aryana Black, a four-year letter winner for the Wolves with 12 kills, 2 blocks and an ace in the Saturday morning match against Fairfield.

Our Male Athlete of the Week is Fairfield’s So. Running Back Miguel Perez.  Perez has slowly but surely become a very complimentary addition to the numbers being put up by QB Keeley Bake.  Perez had just 4 carries for 16 yards but he scored on one of the Eagles two-point conversions and had two huge kickoff returns.   One for 60 yards and the other one 82 yards for a TD.  On defense, Miguel was among the Eagles top 3 tacklers and had one interception.   Coach Les Meyer notes that he could have scored a second TD but was told to take a knee and run the clock out, and that’s what he did. Coach Meyer calls him a quiet leader, a great kid, positive in the school hallways and a hardworking student.  Fairfield won their 1st round playoff game over Townsend and will now play Florence/Carlton in the 2nd round Sat.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week, So. Miguel Perez of Fairfield and Jr. Christine Funk of Choteau.  The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank.  McDonald’s honors our athletes with two free value meals each.
