LOCAL SPORTS – “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
OUR KSEN/ K96 –BOZEMAN TROPHY FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NEEDED JUST ONE GAME TO GET BACK ON TRACK AFTER RETURNING FROM AN INJURY AND OUR MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NEEDS ONLY ONE WORD TO DESCRIBE HOW HIS SEASON’S GOING…..”LEADER.”
OUR FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK, 5-9 JR. JANESSA WILLEKES OF SIMMS, HAD TO SIT OUT A COUPLE OF GAMES BEFORE LAST WEEKEND AFTER TAKING AN ELBOW TO THE FOREHEAD, AN INJURY THAT REQUIRED 7 STITCHES AND A LITTLE DOWN TIME.
AND THE FIRST GAME BACK WAS A LITTLE SHAKY AGAINST THE DISTRICT’S BEST TEAM IN G.F. CENTRAL. SIMMS COACH TRUITT KINNA SAYS SHE JUST GOT INTO SOME EARLY FOUL TROUBLE AND DIDN’T GET TO PLAY MUCH BUT STILL HAD 8 POINTS. THE NEXT NIGHT WAS A DIFFERENT STORY AND WILLEKES EXPLODED FOR 28 POINTS, THE 4TH BEST SCORING NIGHT IN THE STATE ON SAT.
IN ADDITION TO THE POINTS, SHE HAD 4 REBOUNDS, AND THIS IS IMPRESSIVE 7 DEFLECTIONS.
COACH KINNA SAYS JANESSA IS AN ALL-STATE SELECTION FROM A YEAR AGO AND HEADED THAT WAY AGAIN, AVERAGING OVER 17-POINTS AND 5-REBOUNDS PER GAME.
OUR MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK, FOR THE 2ND TIME IN THE PAST 3 WEEKS IS 6-7 SR. TYREE WHITCOMB OF BROWNING. HIS NUMBERS FOR THE WEEK WERE HARD TO IGNORE WITH 18-POINTS AND 13 REBOUNDS AGAINST WHITEFISH AND THEN 21 WITH 10 REBOUNDS AGAINST HAVRE.
BROWNING HEAD COACH DAN CONNELLY SAYS LEADING THE TEAM IN JUST ABOUT EVERY CATEGORY AND IN SOME, THE DIVISION AND STATE.
Q: WITH 11.5…………….NEWS AUDIO………………..DAN CONNELLY 1-16-19
THE COACH NOTES THAT WHITCOMB IS 6-7 BUT HE POSSESSES GUARD SKILLS AS WELL AS POST SKILLS SO HE’S BEEN TOUGH TO STOP. CONNELLY IS EXCITED ABOUT THE INDIANS DEFENSE AND SAYS “THIS MAY BE ONE OF THE DEFENSES I’VE EVER COACHED,” AND THAT REALLY IS SAYING SOMETHING.
BROWNING IS CURRENTLY 5-0 IN THE NORTHWEST DIVISION, 9-1 OVERALL AND THEY HAVE WON 8 STRAIGHT.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR KSEN/K96—BOZEMAN TROPHY ATHLETE’S OF THE WEEK, JR. JANESSA WILLEKES OF SIMMS, AND SR. TYREE WHITCOMB OF BROWNING. THE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK IS SPONSORED LOCALLY BY McDonald's IN CUT BANK. McDonald's HONORS OUR ATHLETE’S WITH TWO FREE VALUE MEALS EACH.
